Who Knew? Blue News....OwyheeStar has two Weims that have a special anomaly--neither carries the DNA marker for Gray (or Silver-Gray) pups. Every puppy born to any litter they are associated with, will result in all blue pups.

The litter of ten blue pups (above) in the wagon, were born to Rosie (a silver gray female). The litter was sired by Benton (a Blue Longhair). Pictured below are three of the pups from the wagon as adults.
The Blue Weimaraner fan club expands its roster with each year's passing. At the same time, OwyheeStar raises a few additional Blue Weimaraner puppies each year in order to meet their client's demand.

Are you wondering about Cliff using the longhair sire, and if in turn, the blue pups would (eventually) become a (blue) longhair? The answer to your question is no. The only way that would happen is if the mother carried the longhair DNA marker.
If Benton were mated to any longhair female, the resulting litter would be all blue longhairs. If Benton were mated to a smooth-coated longhair carrier, approximately half of the pups would be longhairs. In Cliff and Shela's experience, the actual percentage varied. Sometimes they had similar matings produce only two longhair pups, and yet on two occasions in 2012, there were six longhair pups in a litter of eight. Indy and Ilsa are sisters. Their family adopted Ilsa at birth. They met Indy's family on many occasions in and around the Portland area. Later, Indy was returned to OwyheeStar. Cliff and Shela had already heard from Ilsa's family that they would be interested if ever Indy came available. Although, it is never advisable to get two litter-mates as pups, this particular scenario worked well for all concerned. Of course, Cliff was engaged in rehabilitating Indy, and it was a while before she was ready to leave OwyheeStar. Ilsa and Indy's notorious exploits have been well documented in photographs which their family gracious shares with the extended OwyheeStar family. |
